CHATTOGRAM, May 18, 2025 (BSS) - The district authorities have announced that no makeshift cattle market will be allowed on the fields of any educational institutions in the city and district ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, warning that stern action will be taken against any violators.
The decision was taken at separate meetings of the district law and order committee and district development coordination committee held at the Circuit House conference room this afternoon with Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanom in the chair.
The DC informed the meeting that a total of nine spots under the jurisdiction of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) have been designated for setting up sacrificial animal markets this year. Apart from traditional markets in 15 upazilas of the district, no such market would be allowed except already earmarked makeshift places.
"The administration is determined to bring discipline in the setup of sacrificial animal markets ahead of Eid-ul-Azha this year to reduce public hazards and prevent crimes centering around cattle market activities," said DC Farida Khanom.
Additional District Magistrate Syed Mahbubul Haque presented a multi-media slide-show in the meeting showcasing category-wise crime scenario of last month in the city and district. He also apprised meeting regarding the overall activities and progress of the various government departments.
District police officials informed the meeting that law enforcement agencies have chalked out details plans, including setting up scanning machine to detect fake currency, providing security to the cattle traders and buyers, as well as keeping highways free from traffic disruptions in order to maintaining discipline and safety in and around the cattle markets.
Civil Surgeon Dr Jahangir Alam, ADC (General) Md Kamruzzaman, Additional District Police Superintendent Md Zunayed Kawser, Deputy Director of Local Government Md Noman Hossain and Chief Executive of District Council Md Diderul Alam, along with senior officials, also attended the meeting.
