Restoration work of historic Moghar Khal starts in Gazipur to solve water-logging

GAZIPUR, May 23, 2025 (BSS) – Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) has initiated restoration work on the historic Moghar Khal aiming to alleviate long-standing water logging in Gazipur. 

The project officially commenced this morning from the Bhogra Bypass area, with support from the Bangladesh Army.

The comprehensive initiatives include demarcation of the canal, eviction of illegal encroachments, and extensive excavation and cleaning operations. 

Officials hoped this effort will provide long-term relief to residents affected by frequent flooding and improve the environmental condition of the area.

The restoration work continued throughout the day today and GCC officials and army personnel monitored the operations. 

GCC Waste Management Officer Md Sohel Rana, Superintending Engineer (Mechanical) Sudip Basak and Executive Engineer Md. Russell were present.

Dhaka Divisional Commissioner and Gazipur City Corporation Administrator Sarfuddin Ahmed Chowdhury emphasized the importance of the project for the local community.

 “We have begun the demarcation, eviction of illegal encroachments, excavation, and cleaning of Moghar Khal for the benefit of the citizens and the protection of the environment,” he added.
