Govt allocates over 858 metric tons of VGF rice in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, May 24, 2025 (BSS) -The government has allocated 858.7 metric tons of rice under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme on the occasion of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Azha for distribution among 85,870 poor and distressed families in Manikganj district.

According to sources at the District Relief and Rehabilitation Office, the rice will be distributed free of cost among families in seven upazilas and two municipalities of the district.

Under the programme, 14,628 vulnerable families in Manikganj Sadar Upazila, 16,285 families in Singair Upazila, 14,582 families in Daulatpur Upazila, 8,286 families in Saturia Upazila, 9,956 families in Shibalaya Upazila, 7,468 families in Harirampur Upazila, and 6,963 families in Ghior Upazila will receive the allocation.

Additionally, 4,621 families in Manikganj Municipality and 3,081 families in Singair Municipality will also benefit from the initiative.

Each family will receive 10 kilograms of rice, the sources said.

The distribution will be conducted as per lists prepared by the ward-level committees and approved by the respective upazila administrations. Designated tag officers will be present at each distribution point to ensure proper and fair distribution, the sources added.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Lutfor Rahman said that necessary steps are being taken to ensure completion of the rice distribution to all VGF cardholder families before Eid-ul-Azha.

He further said that steps are being taken to complete distribution to the cardholder families before the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha to support them in celebrating the festival.
