Fugitive death row convict arrested in Barguna

     BARGUNA, May 24, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested a fugitive convict, who was sentenced to death for killing a youth in Barguna municipality in 2013, from Fakirhat area under Taltoli upazila of the district last night.

     The arrested convict is Md. Salauddin Gazi, son of Sattar Gazi of Kathaltoli village under Dhalua union in Sadar upazila.

     According to documents of the case, Anik, 18, son of Subal Chandra Roy of Shaheed Smriti Road of Barguna municipality, was killed on September 19, 2013. 

     After 18 days, his body was recovered from a septic tank next to the old building of the sub-registrar's office. 

     The victim’s father filed a murder case against 6 people including Salauddin Gazi in this connection. 

     On August 7, 2019, Barguna District and Sessions Judge Court sentenced Salauddin Gazi to death and two others life term imprisonment.

     The court also acquitted three persons as the charges brought against them were not proven.

     Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Dewan Jaglul Hasan said immediately after the murder, Salahuddin Gazi, the first accused in the case, had fled to neighboring India. When he recently comes back the country, police arrested him with the help of information technology. 

     The accused was sent to jail through the court on Saturday afternoon, he said.
