Prior preparations can reduce losses of lives, properties: speakers

     GAIBANDHA, May 24, 2025 (BSS) - Speakers at a function here today said early preparations before flood could play significant role in reducing loss of lives and properties in flood prone areas during the flood and its post flood periods. 

     As the district is located in flood prone area due to geographical location, it experiences seasonal floods every year creating untold sufferings to the people. Due to flood, the people of the areas face several damages in various sectors including agriculture, livestock, fisheries, communication and education. 

     If early preparations are adopted, their sufferings and sorrows would reduce and the amount of losses of lives and properties would also decrease as well.

     The speakers made the comments while addressing a discussion meeting on Simulation on the National Early Action Protocol on Moon soon Riverine Flood on the ground of NH Modern High School of the town here this noon. 

     Department of Disaster Management and Relief under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief arranged the function in cooperation with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, CARE Bangladesh, Concern Worldwide, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), FRIENDSHIP, IFRC, RIMES, Save the Children, SKS Foundation, Start Network and World Food Program (WFP). 

     Additional secretary of the Ministry of Disater Management and Relief KM Abdul Wadud addressed the function as the chief guest while director general of Department of Disaster management Razwanur Rahman presided over the function.

     It was also addressed, among others, by additional secretary (Relief), Ministry of disaster management and Relief Md. Rabiul Islam, head of Resilience innovation, WFP Siddiqul Islam Khan, deputy country director-program, CARE Emebet Mennadeputy director of the department of agricultural extension Khorshed Alam Sarker and district relief and rehabilitation officer Shafiqul Islam.

     Earlier, a mock drill was held on the ground of the school through active participation of the volunteers coming from different organizations in a bid to make the people aware so that they could take early preparations before flood to reduce loss of lives and properties during the flood.
