PATUAKHALI, May 27, 2025 (BSS)- A mobile court today fined and sentenced an 
encroacher to jail for constructing a structure on a canal in Kalapara 
upazila of the district.

The accused was identified as Md. Milan Hossain. He was fined Taka 50,000, in 
default, to suffer one month of simple imprisonment for constructing a 
structure on a flowing canal under Section 291 of the Penal Code, 1860.

Additionally, the court ordered the removal of the structure to restore the 
canal to its previous flow.
 
Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mohammad Yasin Sadek 
led the mobile court. 

He emphasized that government canals, beels and other water bodies cannot be 
encroached upon under any circumstances.
