Contraband worth Tk 1.1 crore seized along Sylhet borders

SYLHET, May 30, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized contraband goods worth approximately Tk 1.10 crore during anti-smuggling operations along the Sylhet and Sunamganj borders.

The raids were carried out at early hours on Friday by BGB Battalion-48 in several frontier areas, including Sripur, Tamabil, Songram, Protappur, Panthumai and Shonarhat.

Among the seized items were beef, buffalo meat, betel nuts, various skincare creams, used mobile phones, alcohol, and other illegal products.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Nazmul Haque, commanding officer of BGB-48 Battalion, said that the BGB, in coordination with intelligence agencies, is working diligently to curb cross-border smuggling and ensure the safety of the border areas.

"This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to combat smuggling. The seized items are currently being processed according to legal procedures," he added.
