NOAKHALI, May 30, 2025 (BSS) - Noakhali district recorded the highest rainfall in the last 24 hours with 285mm, while the capital Dhaka experienced 196mm of rainfall during the same period.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the highest rainfall was recorded at Maijdi Court until 6am today.

Heavy downpour inundated vast areas in Muchhapur, Charhazari, and Charelahi under Companyganj upazila, along with several parts of Hatia upazila in the coastal belt.

Residents expressed concern over potential flooding, as water levels in various rivers and canals rose rapidly and approached the danger mark.

M Rafiqul Islam, in charge of the district weather forecast centre, said the torrential rain was caused by a depression over the Bay of Bengal, which led to widespread inundation and disruption of communication.

Deputy Commissioner Khandaker Ishtiak Ahmed said the upazila administration, Water Development Board, and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society are actively working to manage the situation.
