Child, woman die in lighting, electrocution in Netrokona

NETROKONA, May 31, 2025 (BSS) - A child and a woman were killed today in 
separate incident in a lighting strike and electrocution in Kendua upazila of 
the district. 

The deceased are Mim Akhter, 10, daughter of Ali Osman of Dumdi village of 
Garadoba Union and Marufa Akter, 30, wife of Sohel Mia from Kutubpur village 
of Rowailbari Union of the upazila. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kendua Police Station Mizanur Rahman confirmed the 
matter.

According to police, Mim Akter was killed by a lightning strike while 
returning home from a haor (wetland) with her mother after collecting cows. 

In a separate incident, Marufa Akther died after coming into contact with 
live detached electrical wire in Kutubpur village of Rowailbari Union this 
morning. 

Police recovered the bodies and handed it over to the relatives, the OC said.
