KCC opens cattle market in Khulna

KHULNA, June 1, 2025 (BSS) -The lone market for sacrificial animals under 
Khulna City Corporation (KCC) started on Sunday (today) afternoon at Joragate 
Bazar premises.

Divisional Commissioner of Khulna and Administrator of KCC Md Firoz Sarkar, 
officially inaugurated the cattle market as the chief guest.

After inaugurating the cattle market, the chief guest said that various 
committees have been formed to ensure the safety and necessary facilities for 
cattle owners coming from different places.

The City Corporation will remain active in maintaining cleanliness in the 
market, and the supply of adequate water will be ensured. Responsibilities 
have been divided among several dedicated committees to oversee different 
tasks, he said.

He mentioned that responding to public demand, the market toll (hassil) has 
been reduced from 5 percent to 4 percent this year compared to last year. 
Despite the reduced rate, higher revenue collection is expected, which will 
be deposited into the government fund. 

He also expressed appreciation for the cooperation from all political parties 
in managing the cattle market. The Bangladesh Bank's Khulna branch has also 
taken steps to detect counterfeit currency.

Sharif Asif Rahman, Secretary of KCC and Convener of the Cattle Market 
Committee, presided over the inauguration ceremony. 

According to the cattle market organizing committee, the cattle exuviate has 
been set up in accordance with the hygiene rules, no other cattle market can 
be placed in the city. 

The cattle market has all the modern management including round-the-clock 
security through CCTV cameras, ensuring uninterrupted power supply, and 
detection of counterfeit notes under the management of Bangladesh Bank, and 
has also set up all modern management including effectuation (Hasil) in a 
computerised system.

There will be round-the-clock treatment of veterinarians and visitors to the 
market, provision of restaurant in a clean environment, modern public toilets 
and 24-hour security with the help of magistrates, police and RAB.
