PANCHAGARH, June 2, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for killing his wife in Boda upazila of the district in 2015.

The court also fined the convicted man Shafiqul Islam, 46, son of Hamed Ali of Tarangipara village in Kaliaganj union of the upazila, Taka 50,000, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.

Judge of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-2 Md. Kamruzzaman pronounced the verdict this afternoon, said Advocate Yasinul Haque Dulal, Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) of the court.

According to prosecution, convict Shafiqul used to torture his wife Momtaz over family matter. On July 9, 2015, Momtaz's lifeless body was found lying on the floor of her house. 

Being informed, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body of Momtaz and sent it to Panchagarh Adhunik Sadar Hospital morgue.

The deceased's father Abdul Mannan filed a murder case with Boda Police Station on July 14, 2015.
