Japan firm to carry out study on waste treatment in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 11, 2025 (BSS) - A Japanese firm has shown interest to carry out feasibility study on the second phase of the “Integrated Waste Treatment Project” in the port city.

The project is aiming to develop and introduce modern waste management system, reducing emission of fuel-production based carbon dioxide and produce renewable energy.
 
A Japanese delegation comprised of high officials from Ministry of Environment of Japan and JFE Engineering Corporation has expressed interest while called on Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Dr. Shahadat Hossain at latter’s office today.
 
The delegation met with CCC mayor to review the progress and future of the on-going project on modern waste management and produce renewable energy. 

The meeting also put emphasis on increased technical and technological assistance between Japan and CCC in order to turn the port city into an environment-friendly metropolis.

CCC Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain appreciated the Japan government’s overall cooperation in such an important area and hoped that CCC would get highest technical and financial assistance to complete the project. 

Mayor said lack of modern waste management is one of the major causes of environment degradation and persistent water-logging in the port city.
