Jamuna oil, Unilever donates Tk. 11.24 cr to Sramik Kalyan Foundation

DHAKA, Aug 11, 2025 (BSS)- Jamuna Oil Company Limited, Unilever Bangladesh Limited and Unilever Consumer Care Limited today donated Tk. 11.24 crore to Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Foundation.

Adviser for Labour and Employment and Shipping Brigadier General Dr M Sakhawat Hussain (retd) received the donation at his office, according to a press release.

The companies donated the money to Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Foundation from a portion of their annual profit, it said.

The release said, Bangladesh Labour Act (amendment) Act 2018 has the provision to provide 0.5 percent of their annual profit of the industrial establishments to Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Foundation for welfare of the workers.

Of the total donation, Jamuna Oil Company donated Tk. 8.17 crore while Unilever Bangladesh donated Tk. 44.98 lakh and Unilever Consumer Care donated Tk. 2.61 crore,

Appreciating the initiative of the companies, the adviser said, this money will be used for the welfare of the workers in the formal and informal sectors.

The secretary of Labour and Employment and representatives of companies were present during the cheque handover ceremony.
