MAGURA, Aug 20, 2025 (BSS) - A 15-day tree fair began today in the district with the theme of "Let's do planned afforestation, build a green Bangladesh."
The district administration in cooperation with Social Forestry Zone is organizing the fair at the Collectorate ground of the district town.
Deputy Commissioner Wahidul Islam inaugurated the fair as the chief guest while Assistant Conservator of Forests Md. Gias Uddin (Magura) was in the chair.
District Civil Surgeon, teachers and students of various educational institutions, social figures, and officials of the Social Forestry Zone were also present on the occasion.
Speaking at the inaugural function, the deputy commissioner said tree plantation in a planned manner is essential to tackle the adverse impacts of climate change. "We all need to plant more trees and ensure their proper care. Such tree fair help raise awareness and inspire the young generation to build green Bangladesh," he added.
Earlier, a colourful procession was brought out from the premises of the deputy commissioner's office and paraded the main streets of the town before ending at the fair venue.
On the occasion, tree saplings were distributed among students of two educational institutions.
A total of 15 stalls have been set up at the fair, showcasing varieties of fruit, forest, and medicinal plants.
