DHAKA, Aug 20, 2025 (BSS) - The Algerian Embassy in Dhaka on Wednesday
observed "National Mujahid Day" with due solemnity, commemorating two
historic milestones in Algeria's struggle for independence.

The day began with the ceremonial hoisting of the Algerian national flag at
the embassy premises, led by Chargé d'affaires Basma Bentaleb in the presence of
diplomats, business leaders, media representatives and members of
Bangladesh's civil society.

The commemoration marks the dual anniversaries of the North Constantine
Offensive of August 20, 1955, and the Soummam Conference of August 20, 1956 -
- both pivotal moments that shaped Algeria's liberation movement.

In her keynote address, Bentaleb paid tribute to the sacrifices of the
Algerian people in their fight against colonial rule. She recalled the brutal
reprisals following the Constantine uprising, which, despite its tragic cost,
became a rallying point for national unity.

She also highlighted the transformative role of the Soummam Conference, which
formalised the political and military framework of the revolution and paved
the way for the establishment of Algeria's provisional government.

Underscoring the enduring values of resistance, unity and vision, Bentaleb
said the Mujahid Day remains a reminder of Algeria's resilience and a source
of inspiration for peoples struggling for freedom worldwide.
