Youth goes missing in Teesta river

LALMONIRHAT, Sept 2, 2025 (BSS) - A youth has gone missing while taking bath in the Teesta river at Kaliganj upazila of the district today.

The youth is Mehdi Hasan Muhid, 28, son of Helal Uddin of the same village.

Muhid went to Binbinia Ghat with his friends at noon for taking bath. At one point, when he drowned in deep water, his friends managed to get to the shore, but Muhid was swept away by the current.

Muhid recently returned home after completing his honors from a private university in China.

Soon after the incident, a team of Kaliganj Fire Service launched a rescue operation with the help of locals, but Muhid could not be rescued.
 
Kaliganj Fire Service and Civil Defense leader Shariful Islam said, “After the incident, we searched all possible areas but no trace of Muhid was found. The diving team from Rangpur has been informed. The rescue operation will be resumed when they arrive.”
