Dinajpur administration declares its 6 unions free from child marriage, child labor

DINAJPUR, Sept 3, 2025 (BSS) - The local administration here formally declared its six unions under Dinajpur Sadar Upazila free from child marriage and child labor.

 Deputy Commissioner of Dinajpur district Md Rafiqul Islam made the announcement at a function at the Shishu Academy auditorium here on Tuesday.
 
He declared six unions -- Auliapur, Sheikhpura and Askarpur unions -- out of 10 unions in Dinajpur Sadar Upazila as child labor free while Fazilpur, Sundarban and Uthrail unions as child marriage free unions.
 
Terming child marriage and child labor as a social diseases, the Deputy Commissioner called upon everyone to jointly build resistance against it.
 
"It would be possible to eradicate child marriage and child labor from the country by creating mass awareness among the people," he hoped.
 
Local district administration, Sadar Upazila administration and Union Parishad administration and in collaboration with Dinajpur AP, World Vision Bangladesh jointly organized the programme.

The DC said the number of divorce cases and dowry-related incidents across the country has increased due to the rise of child marriage.
 
The Deputy Commissioner urged everyone to give importance to the issue so that no one supports child marriage and child labor.
 
Dinajpur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shahin Sultana presided over the function. Among others, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md Anwar Hossain, President of Dinajpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Alhaj Abu Bakkar Siddique, Deputy Director of Imam Training Academy Md Alamgir Haider, President of Qazi Samity Kazi Md Abdus Sattar, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md Shakerina Begum and Dinajpur Dharma Pradesh Victor General Father Kerubim Bakla also spoke there.
