7 held for committing robberies in guise of DB

DHAKA, Sept 4, 2025 (BSS) - Police on Wednesday night arrested seven members of an organised gang of criminals on charges of committing robberies impersonating them as member of the Detective Branch (DB) of police. 

The arrested were Md. Deen Islam alias Kausar Ahmed, 35, Md. Kamal Hawlader, 35, Abdur Rahman Hawlader, 37, Md. Mehedi Hasan alias Hasan, 38, Md. Babul Hawlader, 38, Md. Ramiz Talukder, 35, and Jannatul Ferdous, 22. 

A team of the DB arrested them from in front of the Laguna stand on the south side of the Golap Shah Mazar in Gulistan area under Shahbagh Police Station around 9:05 pm on Wednesday.

They also seized two DB jackets, two walkie-talkies, a fake police ID card, two handcuffs, two toy pistols, two pocket routers, six Android mobile phones, six button mobiles, expandable batons and laser lights from their possession. 

Deputy Commissioner of the DB of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the arrest and seizure. 

Shahbagh Thana police said that they came to know that an organised group of robbers was preparing to commit a robbery in front of the Laguna stand on the south side of the Golap Shah Mazar in the capital's Gulistan area. 

Based on such information, a smart team of Shahbagh Police Station conducted a raid there and arrested them. 

During the initial interrogation of the arrested persons revealed that they were active members of an organised gang of robbers. 

They used to target gold traders coming from different parts of the country to the Tanti Bazar area of the capital and people withdrawing large sums of money from banks. 

Later, they used to commit robberies by pretending to be members of the law enforcement agencies.

A review of the records shows that there are 10 robbery cases in the name of the arrested Md. Deen Islam alias Kausar Ahmed, three in the name of Abdur Rahman Hawlader, four in the name of Md. Mehedi Hasan alias Hasan, two in the name of Md. Babul Hawlader and four in the name of Md. Ramiz Talukder.
