RANGAMATI, Sept 8, 2025 (BSS) - The Karnaphuli Hydropower Plant authorities have started releasing water into the Karnaphuli River for the third time as the water level in Kaptai Lake has again approached the danger level.

As the water level of Kaptai Lake has crossed the danger level, water has started being released six inches at a time through 16 sluice gates of Kaptai Hydropower Plant for the third time, Manager of Kaptai Karnaphuli Hydropower Plant Mahmud Hasan confirmed the matter to BSS.

He told BSS that as the water level of the lake has crossed the danger level, 16 sluice gates of the power plant started releasing water six inches at a time at 2.45 pm on Monday.

Around 9,000 cusecs of water is being discharged from Kaptai Lake into the Karnaphuli River every second.

The authorities decided to release water after the water level of Kaptai Lake crossed danger level due to rainfall in the lake's banks, Mahmud Hasan added.
