Two jailed in Tangail over drug offenses

TANGAIL, Sept 8, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court today sentenced two individuals to imprisonment over drug offenses in Bhuyapur upazila of the district.

The court, led by acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Rajib Hossain, took action following reports of narcotics being sold clandestinely under the guise of business activities.

Md Abdul Malek, 40, of Balkutia village, was handed a two-year jail term and fined Taka 5,500 for drug peddling. 

In a separate case, Shukkur, 27, of Kostapara village, received six months' imprisonment and a Taka 500 fine for drug abuse.

The UNO said such drives will continue to ensure public safety in the area.
