KHULNA, Sept 11, 2025 (BSS) - As in previous years, no new taxes have been imposed in the budget of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) for the current fiscal year (2025-26 FY).
Khulna City Corporation (KCC) on Thursday announced a proposed budget of Taka 719 crore 50 lakh 36 thousand without imposing any new taxes for the 2025-26 fiscal years (FY).
As in previous years, most of which will depend on donor agencies. The revised budget for the previous fiscal year stood at Taka 618 crore, against a target of Taka 981 crore 99 lakh 78 thousand.
Administrator of the KCC Md Firoz Sarkar announced the budget around 11.30 am at the Shaheed Altaf Milon Auditorium in the presence of the parents of July Uprising Martyr Sakib Raihan, leaders of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jamaat-e-Islami, Anti-discrimination Students Movement and different professional bodies and civic society.
"Due to the absence of new projects in the last four years and the nearing completion of older projects, this year's budget is smaller in size. Compared to the previous year, development allocations have decreased by nearly Taka 260 crore. However, a large new project is awaiting approval," Sarkar said.
This year, the proposed budget prioritizes three divisions including conservancy, drainage system development and health.
He said two major projects titled "Repair and Development of Important and Damaged Roads in the Metropolis and Drainage System Improvement" were approved in September 2018, with a combined implementation cost of Taka 1,436 crore.
Among these, the road repair project was completed in the previous fiscal year, while the drainage project is scheduled for completion this year.
Another project, Waste Management Development, approved in 2021 will also be completed within the current fiscal year, he stated.
Sarkar, who is also the Khulna Divisional Commissioner, said that the corporation's own income is used for paying salaries, allowances, and daily operations while development activities are entirely funded by government allocations and donor contributions under the project frameworks. Without approval of new projects, no further development funds will be available, he added.
This year's budget has been prepared on a realistic basis. With declining government projects, allocations have also decreased, resulting in a smaller budget.
