10 injured in gas cylinder warehouse explosion in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 17, 2025 (BSS) - At least 10 workers sustained burn injuries in an incident of explosion and fire at a gas cylinder warehouse at Charpara of Boiltali area under Chandanaish upazila in the district early this morning.

The burn victims are owner of the godown Mahbubur Rahman, 45, workers Md Sourav Rahman, 25, Md Kafil, 22, Md Reyaz,17, Yunus, 26, Md Akib, 17, Md Harun, 29, Idrish, 30, Liton , 28, and Md Saleh 33. 

Witnesses said the explosion that led to devastating fire was originated when flame of a worker's cigarette suddenly came in touch of a gas-loaded cylinder. Instantly a number of cylinders blasted with big sounds, creating panic in the area. The fire soon engulfed the entire warehouse. 

Locals said the injured workers were unloading gas-loaded cylinders from a truck. 

On information, a team of fire fighters rushed to the scene, brought the fire under control after an hour of efforts and rescued the victims. 

The injured were taken to local health complex first and then shifted to Burn Unit of Chattogram Medical College Hospital. 

Dr. Md Khaled of CMCH Burn Unit said some of the injured were in critical condition, with 40 % to 70% of their bodies burnt.
