NARSINGDI, Oct 12, 2025 (BSS) - At least seven workers of a lead making
factory sustained burn injuries when a fire broke out at the factory in
Panchdona area of Sadar upazila here this morning.
Three of them, who are in critical condition, have been sent to the National
Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.
The fire broke out at the factory around 10 am, leaving seven workers of the
factory injured, said Mohammad Emdadul Haque, officer-in-charge of Sadar
Police Station.
The injured are Mozammel Hossain, 19, son of Kadir Mia, Hossain Ali, 24, son
of Saddam Mia, and Taijul Islam, 25, son of Saddam Hossain - all residents of
Dakshin Shilmandi area. Four other workers suffered minor burns.
According to locals, the factory had been operating illegally for a long time
without any approval from the authorities. Workers used to extract lead by
burning old batteries inside the premises.
On Sunday morning, a sudden explosion triggered a fire, leaving seven of them
severely burnt. Locals rushed to the scene, rescued the victims, and took
them to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.
Dr Farida Gulshanara Kabir, residential medical officer (RMO) of Narsingdi
Sadar Hospital, said seven burn victims were brought to the hospital from
Panchdona area around 10.30am.
"Two of them sustained about 60 percent burns while another has around 50
percent burns. They have been referred to the National Institute of Burn and
Plastic Surgery for better treatment," she added.
OC Mohammad Emdadul Haque said police and fire service officials visited the
site following the incident. "An investigation is underway to determine the
cause of the fire, and legal action will follow. So far, seven workers have
been confirmed injured," he added.
