Beggar rehabilitation programme inaugurated in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, Sept 18, 2025 (BSS) - A beggar rehabilitation and alternative employment creation programme was inaugurated at Bhum Dakkhin Bazar area under Singair Upazila in the district on Wednesday.

Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury formally inaugurated the programme as the chief guest by handing over the key of a shop to a beneficiary Saleha Khatun.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said, "We want to abolish professions like begging. Our aim is to make them self-sufficient and honourable members of society."

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Manwar Hossein Malla, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Mohammad Ali, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Services Abdul Baten, and Singair Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Quamrul Hasan Sohag, among others, were present at the event.
