DINAJPUR, Sept 20, 2025 (BSS) - Import and export operations through Hili land port here will be suspended for eight consecutive days from September 26 to October 3, marking the observance of Sharadiya Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community.

Sakhawat Hossain Shilpi, President of the Hili Land Port Importers and Exporters Association, confirmed it, saying that traders from both Bangladesh and India reached the decision through mutual consultation.

He, however, said that unloading of goods inside the Panama Port will continue as usual on working days, except government holidays. Passenger movement through Hili Immigration Check Post with valid passports will also remain normal, he added.

Md. Ferdous Rahman, President of the Hili Land Port C&F Agents Association, also ensured it, citing religious formalities in India during the festival as the reason behind the temporary halt in trade. Regular import-export activities are scheduled to resume on Saturday, October 4.

Md. Nizam Uddin, Revenue Officer of Hili Customs Department, informed that while export-import will be paused, customs office operations will proceed as usual on working days.

Importers will be able to clear their goods with necessary assistance from customs officials, he added.

Officer-in-Charge of Hili Immigration Check Post Police Md. Ariful Islam confirmed that travelers with valid documents will be able to cross between Bangladesh and India daily from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm throughout the Puja period.
