CHANDPUR, Sept 20, 2025 (BSS) - Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, will be celebrated at 224 mandaps in all eight upazilas of the district this year.
According to district administration sources, 42 mandaps will be set up in Sadar upazila, 6 in Haimchar, 34 in Matlab Uttar, 34 in Matlab Dakshin, 29 in Hajiganj, 22 in Faridganj, 19 in Shahrasti and 38 mandap will be erected in Kachua upazila.
Subhash Roy, President of the District Puja Udjapan Parishad, told BSS that preparations for this year's Durga Puja are progressing in full swing across the district.
Tapan Chakraborty, priest of the district's central Sri Sri Kalibari Temple, said this year Goddess Durga will arrive and depart in a grand manner - arriving on an elephant and departing in a palanquin.
The Durga festival will commence with Mahalaya on Sunday (September 21), he said, adding that the Maha Panchami will be celebrated on September 27.
Maha Shasthi will be celebrated on September 28 while Maha Saptami on September 29, Maha Ashtami on September 30, Maha Nabami on October 1, he added.
He said that the Durga festival will conclude with Bijoya Dashami on October 2.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mohsin Uddin visited several puja mandaps in the town on Friday and assured full cooperation, including security arrangements, to ensure peaceful and smooth celebrations.
