MAGURA, Oct 11, 2025 (BSS) - Three children tragically drowned in a canal while bathing at Chapatla village of Balidia Union under Mohammadpur upazila of the district today.
The deceased were Tanha, daughter of Tariqul Islam; Tarin, daughter of Anarul Islam; and Cynthia, daughter of Sajjad Hossain, all from the same village. The girls, aged 8 to 9, were cousins.
The accident occurred around 1 pm when the three girls went to the canal to bathe near their house.
When they did not return home after an hour, family members began searching. Later, locals recovered their bodies from the canal.
They were taken to Mohammadpur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.
Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur Police Station Abdur Rahman confirmed the matter and said that it is being verified whether the deaths of the three children at the same time were accidental.
