JESSORE, Oct 16, 2025 (BSS) - District authorities have successfully cleared 43 decimal of land from illegal grabbers along the Bhairab River in the Doratana area of the district town.

District Administration and the Water Development Board (WDB) conduct the joint operation on Thursday, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The operation was led by Nusrat Yasmin, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Jashore Sadar Upazila. WDB Executive Engineer Palash Kumar Banerjee and police were also present.

During the five-hour operation, the team tore down about 40 illegal shops and structures built on the river land. After the structures were removed, the recovered area was marked with boundary pillars and fenced off with barbed wire.

WDB Executive Engineer Palash Kumar Banerjee said the river encroachers had been notified several times, but they refused to vacate their shops.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nusrat Yasmin said announcements were also made over loudspeakers the day before the drive, but the shop owners ignored the warnings.

Nusrat Yasmin confirmed that the drive successfully freed 43 decimal of river land. She stressed that the administration would take immediate action, including further eviction drives, if anyone tries to reoccupy the recovered land.
