PIROJPUR, Oct 18, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Navy in a drive has seized 30,000 meters of nets to protect mother hilsa in the estuaries of Sandhya and Kancha rivers in Kaukhali upazila of the district.
A team of Bangladesh Navy led by Lieutenant Commander SM Zayedul Islam conducted a drive in the area on Saturday afternoon and seized 30,000 meters of illegal nets from Sandhya and Kancha rivers.
The estimated market value of the nets is Taka 10.50 lakh.
The seized nets were burned and destroyed on the banks of Sandhya river in Amrajhuri area of the upazila.
Lieutenant Commander SM Zayedul Islam confirmed the matter to BSS.
He said like every year, this year too, the mother hilsa conservation campaign is being conducted under the government management and the plan of the Bangladesh Navy.
Today's campaign is a part of that. He also said that in this campaign, the Navy has seized 32 lakh 99 thousand meters of illegal nets so far.
The estimated market value of which is Taka 60.34 crore. The Navy's warship Banouja Kushiyara is conducting the campaign in Barguna, Pirojpur and surrounding areas. The campaign will continue until October 25.
