Sheikh Bashir Road is being made encroachment free

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 22, 2025 (BSS) - Chattogram City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has laid the foundation stone for the renovation and development of Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Road in Agrabad, Chattogram city. 

He expressed satisfaction in fulfilling his promise to improve the road quality and remove encroachments, stating that he made this commitment even before becoming mayor.

Dr. Shahadat made the remarks as the chief guest at the inauguration of the renovation and development activities on Haji Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Road in front of the district police line on Agrabad Access Road this morning.

He said that it was a special day for the people of Agrabad as Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Road was being opened for movement of the city dwellers. 

The mayor stated that by opening the road, he had fulfilled a civic duty and a humanitarian commitment. He also announced plans to maintain the road as a clean, encroachment-free, and drug-free area, prohibiting illegal shops or settlements. 

Additionally, beautification efforts such as creating islands and gardens in the middle of the road may be undertaken if needed.

 In this area, there are various educational institutions, business centers, and hospitals. The new road will facilitate movement of residents of wards 24 and 27.

Dr. Shahadat Hossain urged the locals to stand against corruption, terrorism, and extortion. 

Ward 27 BNP convener Kamal Uddin Sardar chaired the event while CCC Secretary Md. Ashraful Amin, former councilor Md. Sekendar, executive engineer Anwar Jahan, assistant engineer Gazi Md. Kamrul Hasan, and heroic freedom fighters Haji Hossain Ahmed, Faiz Ahmed, Abdul Mabud, Md. Shahid, Abdur Rob, Hasan Rubel, Iskander Mirza, Sumon, Sekendar, and Azad, among others, sharing their thoughts at the event.
