
JASHORE, Nov 5, 2025 (BSS) - The Department of National Consumer Rights Protection has fined Panchforan Hotel and Restaurant in the district town Taka one lakh for keeping stale food and preparing an unhygienic environment.
A mobile team led by Md. Selimuzzaman, Assistant Director of the department’s Jashore District Office, conducted the drive at the restaurant on MK Road around noon on Wednesday.
During the inspection, officials found stale chicken grill wrapped in paper and stored in the refrigerator. They also detected borhani and sauce prepared on the premises without any labels mentioning their production or expiry dates.
Assistant Director Selimuzzaman said that producing and storing food in an unhealthy environment, selling such food to consumers, and keeping expired items are punishable offenses under Section 43 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009.
For these violations, the restaurant was fined Taka one lakh, which was realized on the spot.
The drive was carried out in the presence of the Upazila Sanitary Inspector, members of the district police, and representatives from the Jashore district branch of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB).
