NILPHAMARI, November 9, 2025 (BSS) - A Nilphamari court today sent two Union Parishad (UP) chairmen and one UP member to jail in a case filed over an attack on an election campaign of a BNP candidate during the 2018 national elections campaign in Domar upazila.

The imprisoned are Sonaray UP chairman Golam Firoz Chowdhury, Harinchara UP chairman Md Russel Rana, and Domar Sadar UP member Almagir Rahman.

They, today, surrendered before the Nilphamari District and Sessions Judge's Court and sought bail but Judge Md Abul Monsur Miah rejected their bail petitions and ordered them to be sent to jail.

According to the case statement, on December 23 of 2018 BNP candidate for Nilphamari-1 (Domar-Dimla) constituency Professor Rafiqul Islam came under attack at Jorabarhi area while campaigning. Several vehicles in his campaign were vandalized and set on fire, leaving at least 60 BNP activists injured.

Following the incident, a local BNP leader filed a case naming 31 people. The three accused appeared before the court in connection with that case.

Domar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Ariful Islam confirmed the court's order, while Public Prosecutor Al Masud Chowdhury said the court denied bail due to the serious nature of the arson and vandalism charges.
