9 of Pabna Mental Hospital broker gang sentenced to 15 days in jail

PABNA, Nov 30, 2025 (BSS) - The district administration and the National 
Security Intelligence (NSI) in a joint operation today arrested nine 
individuals accused of harassing patients and extorting money at Pabna Mental 
Hospital. 

Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate S M Fuad led a mobile 
court during the operation and sentenced each of the arrested individuals to 
15 days' imprisonment.

The convicted persons are Nayeb Ali, 40, Mukarram Hossain, 54, Billal 
Hossain, 43, Abdur Rahim Mallick, 54, Md. Helal, 32, Habib Mandal, 65, Sujan 
Ali, 42, Zahurul Islam, 26, and Rabiul Islam, 42. All of them are residents 
of Hemayetpur Union in Sadar upazila.

According to the district administration, the gang had been operating for a 
long time, routinely harassing patients and their relatives and extorting 
money in various ways. This had resulted in genuine mental health patients 
being deprived of proper services.

Officials stated that such operations will continue to ensure a broker-free 
environment in the hospital.
