Final list of 37 candidates published for six Dinajpur constituencies

DINAJPUR, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS) - The final list of candidates for the upcoming national parliamentary elections in six constituencies of the district was published on Tuesday evening after five aspirants withdrew their nomination papers.

District Election Officer Md Zilhaj Uddin confirmed the matter at 6.30pm. He said that 42 candidates were initially found valid after scrutiny, but five withdrew their nominations on the final day of withdrawal, leaving 37 candidates in the race.

In Dinajpur-1 (Birganj-Kaharol) constituency, six candidates filed nomination papers and none withdrew. The candidates are BNP's Alhaj Manjurul Islam, Jamaat-e-Islami's Md Matiur Rahman, Jatiya Party's Shahinur Islam, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Advocate Md Chan Mia, Zaker Party's Raghunath Chandra Roy, and Gana Odhikar Parishad's Md Rijuwanul Islam.

In Dinajpur-2 (Biral-Bochaganj) constituency, nine candidates were initially declared valid. Jatiya Party candidate Advocate Sudip Chandra Shil later withdrew, leaving eight candidates. 

The remaining candidates are BNP's Md Sadiq Riaz Pinak Chowdhury, Jamaat-e-Islami's AKM Afzalul Anam, Jatiya Party's Md Zulfikar Hossain, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Muhammad Redwanul Karim Rabid, Bangladesh Muslim League's Md Mokaram Hossain, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis' Jobayer Sayeed, and two independents-ANM Bazlur Rashid and Anwar Chowdhury Jibon.

In Dinajpur-3 (Sadar) constituency, eight candidates initially filed nomination papers. Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis candidate Rezaul Karim withdrew, leaving seven candidates. 

The final contenders are BNP's Syed Jahangir Alam, Jamaat-e-Islami's Md Mainul Alam, Jatiya Party's Ahmed Shafi Rubel, Janatar Dal's Md Rabiul Islam, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Md Khairuzzaman, Bangladesh Awami Samajtantrik Party (BAS)'s Md Kibria Hossain, and Bangladesh Muslim League's Lailatul Rima.

In Dinajpur-4 (Chirirbandar-Khansama) constituency, all four candidates remained in the race. They are BNP's Md Akhtaruzzaman Mia, Jamaat-e-Islami's Md Aftabuddin Molla, Jatiya Party's Md Nurul Amin Shah, and Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Md Anwar Hossain.

In Dinajpur-5 (Parbatipur-Phulbari) constituency, nine candidates submitted nomination papers, of which two withdrew. Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md Anwar Hossain and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis candidate Kazi Md Abdul Quader Chowdhury withdrew following an alliance between Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party (NCP). 

The seven remaining candidates are BNP's AKM Kamruzzaman, NCP's Dr Abdul Ahad, Jatiya Party's Md Nurul Amin Shah, BNP rebels AZM Rezwanul Haque and Zakaria Bachchu as independents, and independent candidates Md Hazrat Ali Belal and Md Rustam Ali.

In Dinajpur-6 (Birampur-Hakimpur-Nawabganj-Ghoraghat) constituency, six candidates initially filed nomination papers. 

AB Party candidate Barrister Abdul Haque Sunny withdrew, leaving five candidates. They are BNP National Standing Committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, Jamaat-e-Islami's Md Anwarul Islam, Jatiya Party's Md Rezaul Haque, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Md Nur Alam Siddique, and BAS's Md Abdul Hakim.
