KHULNA, Feb 22, 2026 (BSS) – Leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Khulna today urged people to remain vigilant against propaganda being spread against the elected government and the party.
Speaking at a preparatory meeting at the party office on K.D. Ghosh Road in the city, district BNP Convener Moniruzzaman Montu said that after nearly one and a half decades, the people have an elected government under the leadership of Tarique Rahman and are enjoying the benefits of democracy.
Referring to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, the proclaimer of independence, and three-time former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, he said the party’s landslide victory is essentially a victory of the people of Bangladesh.
Montu alleged that vested quarters have become active in spreading falsehoods against the government led by Tarique Rahman and the BNP following the party’s overwhelming mandate in the people’s vote.
He called on party leaders and activists to remain cautious about propaganda campaigns aimed at tarnishing the government’s image. He also warned that strict organizational action would be taken if any BNP or affiliate body leader is found involved in controversial activities, adding that no one would be allowed to damage the government’s reputation under any circumstances.
The preparatory meeting was held to ensure the success of the district BNP’s annual Iftar Mahfil during Ramadan, arranged to honour distinguished citizens, party leaders, and activists of Khulna.
The meeting unanimously decided to hold this year’s Iftar Mahfil on the 16th of Ramadan (March 6) at the Khulna Club auditorium. Five sub-committees were formed to ensure the program’s success, comprising joint conveners and other leaders. Moniruzzaman Montu was appointed convener, while acting Member Secretary S.M. Monirul Hasan Bappi was made member secretary of the committees, including finance and procurement.
Speaking at the meeting, acting Member Secretary S.M. Monirul Hasan Bappi said directives for reorganizing the party may come from the central leadership soon. He added that past sacrifices, trials, and sufferings of dedicated leaders and activists would be duly recognised, and there would be no place in the party for infiltrators or disloyal elements.
Among others, district BNP Joint Conveners Khan Zulfikar Ali Julu, Mollah Khairul Islam, S.M. Shamim Kabir, Gazi Tafsir Ahmed, G.M. Kamruzzaman Tuku, and Enamul Haque Sajal also spoke at the meeting.
