Relief distributed among fire-affected families in Jurachhari

RANGAMATI, Feb 23, 2026 (BSS) - Relief assistance was distributed among 
families affected by a devastating fire at Gobchhari market in Dumdumya union 
under Jurachhari upazila of the district.

The relief materials were provided at the initiative of the Minister for 
Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, Dipen Dewan. On Monday morning, a three-
member team led by Jurachhari Upazila BNP Senior Vice President Dhanpurna 
Chakma distributed the assistance in the affected area.

A total of 36 families who lost their homes and businesses in the blaze 
received cash support along with essential items including clothes, rice, 
pulses, edible oil, salt, soap and other food supplies.

In addition, educational materials such as books, notebooks, pens and school 
bags were distributed among 25 students from the affected families to help 
them continue their studies without disruption.

Among others present during the distribution were local ward member Yudh Muni 
Chakma, Jubo Dal convener Ashu Gopal Chakma and journalist Rajesh.

The fire, which broke out on February 20 at the remote Gobchhari market 
bordering Jurachhari, destroyed at least 40 establishments, including shops 
and houses, causing extensive damage to property and livelihoods.
