Cumilla Gas Explosion injures 4 of a family

CUMILLA, Feb 24, 2026 (BSS) - Four members of a family, including a woman and a child, sustained burn injuries in a terrible explosion caused by a gas line leak at a three-storey residential building in Baldakhal area of Daudkandi upazila here early today.

Witnesses and hospital sources said the injured are: Monowara Begum, 60, Ziaul Haque, 37, Umme Humaira, 30, and two-year-old child Hurram. 

Soon after the accident they were rushed into the emergency department of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka at around 6 am in a critical condition.

The ground floor of the building suffered severe damage after the explosion with a loud sound at about 4:30 am today.

Talking to the BSS, resident surgeon of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery Dr. Shaon bin Rahman said of the injured, Ziaul Haque suffered 54 percent burns and Umme Humaira suffered 65 percent burns while Monowara Begum suffered two percent and baby Hurram suffered 6 percent burn injuries.

Meanwhile, other inmates of the building remained safe, Inspector of the Daudkandi Fire Service and Civil Defense Ershad Hossain said, adding work for investigation into the accident is going on.
