Counterfeit currency dealer arrested in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 27, 2026 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested an alleged counterfeit currency dealer, Md Sohel Chowdhury, 40, in a raid in the Bayezid Bostami Police Station area of the city.

Acting on a tip-off, a RAB team conducted a raid in the Oxygen Pathanpara area under Bayezid Bostami Police Station on Thursday evening and arrested Sohel, according to a press release issued today.

During the raid, authorities seized 74,500 Indian rupees, 100 counterfeit UAE dirhams and 1,700 counterfeit US dollars from his possession.

RAB alleged that he had been involved in collecting and selling counterfeit foreign currencies for a long time.
RAB Assistant Director A R M Mozaffar Hossain said the arrested person and the seized counterfeit currencies were handed over to the concerned police station on Friday for further legal action.
