Inter-district car thief held with stolen car in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 28, 2026 (BSS) - Police have arrested an alleged member of an inter-district car theft gang and recovered a stolen vehicle in the port city.

The arrestee, Md. Simon, 36, was apprehended by police of Doublemooring Police Station. He was later shown arrested in connection with a car theft case and sent to court.

Simon, a resident of Babunagar in Noakhali, had been living as a tenant at a house owned by Abdul Haque Sawdagar on Faiz Ahmed Lane in Beparipara under the Doublemooring police station area.

Officer-in-Charge Jamal Uddin Khan of Doublemooring Police Station confirmed the matter this afternoon.

According to police sources, the theft took place on the evening of February 26 when the victim parked his Nissan X-Trail in the Agrabad CDA residential area of Chattogram. 

The vehicle was found missing the following morning. The building guard informed the owner about the disappearance around 10:30 am on February 27.

After failing to locate the vehicle, the victim lodged a complaint with the police station.

Acting on the complaint, the crime scene team of Doublemooring Police Station launched an investigation. Using CCTV footage and confidential information, police identified Simon as a suspect and detained him.

During primary interrogation, Simon reportedly confessed to his involvement in the theft and admitted to being engaged in professional car theft. Police said he also has a previous theft case filed with the same police station.

Based on information provided by the accused, police conducted a drive in the DC Park area under Sitakunda Police Station and recovered the stolen Nissan X-Trail car.

The Officer-in-Charge said the accused was produced before the court and that efforts are continuing to arrest other members of the gang.
