KHULNA, Mar 3, 2026 (BSS) – Forest guards rescued a deer from a poachers’ trap in the Keyabunia canal area under the Khulna Range of the Sundarbans West Forest Division (SWFD) on Monday and later released it back into the forest, says a press release last night issued bySWFD.

The deer was recovered around 10am yesterday during a joint foot patrol conducted by members of the Forest Department and the Community Patrol Group (CPG) near the Keyabunia canal under the jurisdiction of the Hayatkhali forest patrol outpost.

On sensing the presence of forest guards, the poachers fled the scene. Despite searching the surrounding areas, the patrol team could not trace the culprits.

The rescued deer was later released safely into the forest after necessary observation, the press release said.

Officer-in-Charge of the Hayatkhali forest patrol outpost, PintuBaroi, said the rescued deer was pregnant.

“We are very pleased to have rescued the deer alive. During the drive, a total of 27 snare traps used for catching deer were seized and destroyed on the spot,” he added.

Forest officials said drives against poaching and illegal wildlife trapping would continue in different parts of the Sundarbans to protect its biodiversity.
