RAJSHAHI, March 3, 2026 (BSS)- An awareness meeting was held to enhance consumer awareness among students of Rajshahi University and to provide them with detailed knowledge about the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009.
The event was organized by CAB Rajshahi this afternoon at the university’s Senate Building.
The meeting was presided over by Ghulam Mostafa Mamun, General Secretary of CAB Rajshahi.
Moderated by Zulfiqar Ali Haider, President of CAB Youth Rajshahi, the special guests included Dr. Iftikharul Alam Masud, Registrar of Rajshahi University, Professor Dr. Parvez Azharul Haque of the university’s Department of Public Administration and Ibrahim Hossain, Divisional Deputy Director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department, Rajshahi.
In his presidential speech, Ghulam Mostafa Mamun said, “The Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009 is not just a law; it is a powerful tool to establish the rightful claims of ordinary people. Students are today’s consumers and tomorrow’s policymakers. Therefore, awareness about this law must be built from the university level.”
He further noted that public awareness plays the most significant role in preventing irregularities such as adulteration, fraud, and overpricing in the market.
Speaking as a special guest, Dr. Iftikharul Alam Masud said, “An aware consumer is a responsible citizen. If students know their rights, they can also raise awareness among their families and society.”
He emphasized the importance of regularly organizing such programs at the university.
Divisional Deputy Director Ibrahim Hossain stated, “The law provides strict penalties against the sale of adulterated products, false advertising, manipulation in weights and measures, and overcharging. Any consumer who suffers can file a complaint and seek redress in accordance with the law.”
He urged students to courageously report any irregularities they observe.
Teachers and students of the university participated in the meeting, and various aspects of the law were discussed during a question-and-answer session.
The organizers said that more continuous programs would be undertaken to involve the younger generation in protecting consumer rights.
