Drugs, Indian goods seized at Lalmonirhat border

LALMONIRHAT, March 5, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a large consignment of Indian drugs and cosmetic products in separate drives along the Lalmonirhat border.

Lalmonirhat Battalion (15 BGB) said this in a press release today.

According to the release, five special patrol teams conducted drives in several border areas on intelligence information as part of ongoing anti-smuggling and anti-drug operations.

During the drives at Balatari area under Balarhat BOP, Sarkartari area under Ramkhana BOP and North Jhaurani area under Jhaurani BOP, suspected smugglers fled into India leaving the goods behind after being chased by BGB members.

BGB members later seized 199 bottles of Eskaf syrup worth Tk 79,600, 56 bottles of Fairdeal syrup worth Tk 22,400, and five kilograms of cannabis worth Tk 17,500.

In two other drives by Mogalhat BOP in Char Falimari and Kornapur areas, smugglers also escaped across the border leaving behind Indian cosmetic items worth Tk 283,600 and 19 bottles of Happy Gold liquor worth Tk 22,800. 

The total estimated seizure value is Tk 425,900.

Commanding Officer of Lalmonirhat Battalion (15 BGB) Lieutenant Colonel Mehdi Imam said BGB remains alert to prevent smuggling and drug trafficking along the border.
