One sent to jail for assaulting mother in Khulna

KHULNA, March 12 (BSS) – A court here today sent a youth to jail in a case filed by his mother accusing him of assaulting her and forcing her out of the house.

Senior Judicial Magistrate-2 of the Rupsha Cognizance Court Apurba Bala passed the order after rejecting the bail petition of the accused, Masum Billah, 30.

Police said Masum Billah was arrested on Wednesday night from the Ramnagar area of Rupsha upazila. He is the son of Samsul Haque and Sahara Banu of the same area.

According to the case statement, in 2013 Masum Billah took ownership of 16 kathas of land from his mother after promising to provide her maintenance. However, after the land was transferred, he allegedly began torturing her and often assaulted her.

On January 1, Masum allegedly dragged his mother out of the house after beating her indiscriminately.

Hearing Sahara Banu’s cries, neighbours rushed to the scene and took her to a local health complex for treatment.
On February 5, the victim filed a case with the court, which ordered police to arrest the accused. He was produced before the court today following his arrest.
