Child killed in Chapainawabganj road accident

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, March 17, 2026 (BSS) - A two and a half years old child named Md. Junayed Hossain was killed and six other people wounded in a road accident today in Shibganj upazila of the district.

The accident occurred around 2:00 pm at Dhobra in Shahabazpur Union of Shibganj upazila on the Chapainawabganj-Sonamasjid highway.

Deceased Md. Junayed Hossain was the son of Sanaullah from Kamalpur village under Daipukuria Union in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district.

According to police and local sources, a head-on collision took place between a Kansa-bound auto-rickshaw and a wood-laden locally made vehicle called "votvoti" coming from the opposite direction leaving seven people, including the child Junayed, were seriously injured.

Locals rescued them and took them to Shibganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the child dead.

Six others injured in the incident are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibganj Police Station, Md. Humayun Kabir, said that police visited the scene after receiving the news, and legal proceedings are underway.
