Mahi elected DUJA Prez, Liton Secy

DHAKA, March 17, 2026 (BSS) - Md Manjur Hossain Mahi of Kaler Kantho and Liton Islam of Star News have been elected President and General Secretary respectively of the Dhaka University Journalists' Association (DUJA) for the 2026 term.

The election for the DUJA executive committee was held today at its office at Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) on the campus. Voting began at 11:50am and continued until 2:30pm, with the results announced at 3:00pm by Chief Election Commissioner Md Nurul Karim Bhuiyan. Election Commissioners Riadul Karim and Saidur Rahman were also present.

A total of 41 voters cast their ballots, including 31 in person and 10 via postal voting. Mahi secured 30 votes to win the presidency, while Liton received 24 votes to become general secretary.

The other office bearers are vice president Mahathir Mohammed, joint general secretary Md Rahad Uddin, office secretary H M Khalid Hasan, treasurer Niemur Rahman Emon and executive members Md Burhan Uddin, Mohammad Shahedul Islam and Samsuddoza Nabab.

Following the announcement, the Chief Election Commissioner congratulated the new leadership and expressed satisfaction over the peaceful and festive environment of the election. He also called on the committee to work together in unity for the welfare of students.
