
KHULNA, March 17, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju has identified urban waste management as a major challenge and announced plans to introduce a comprehensive strategy to overhaul the sector.
Speaking during a daylong visit to several Secondary Transfer Stations (STS) across the city, Manju said authorities are closely monitoring the current system. "After completing our observations, we will formulate a practical action plan and take necessary steps to reorganize and strengthen the conservancy department in line with real conditions," he said.
He also instructed officials to ensure that public inconvenience does not increase ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr and to begin urgent renovation work at existing STS facilities.
As part of his inspection, the KCC administrator visited multiple STS sites, including those in the Daulatpur Rail Station area (Ward 3), Kabir Bottola (Ward 6), Bastuhara near the old asphalt plant (Ward 9), Goal Khali graveyard (Ward 10), Khalishpur New Market (Ward 11), and the Newsprint Mill area (Ward 13).
KCC officials, ward representatives and local residents were present during the visit.
Later in the day, Manju attended a social event at the Rupsha Labour Directorate premises, where Eid gifts were distributed among children with special needs. The program was organized by the voluntary organization "Path Bangladesh" to promote inclusivity.
The event was inaugurated by former Vice Chancellor of Chittagong University Dr. Muhammad Yahya Akhtar. Among the special guests were Metropolitan BNP Organizing Secretary Chowdhury Hasanur Rashid Miraj, UNESCO Khulna President Nurul Islam Khan Mitu, Dr. Rifat Jahan Promi, and Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh Secretary Ariful Islam Jewel.
