CHUADANGA, April 13, 2026 (BSS) - Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an alleged gold smuggler along with 10 gold bars worth approximately Taka 2.5 crore in Darshana of the district early Monday.

The arrested man was identified as Alamgir Khan, 55, son of Badal Khan, a resident of Mubarak Para in Darshana Municipality.

According to a press release issued by Chuadanga-6 BGB Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Nazmul Hasan, the drive was conducted based on confidential intelligence indicating that a large consignment of gold was being smuggled into India.

On a tip-off, a BGB patrol team took position in Darshana Old Railway Station area around 6 am and monitored suspicious movement. At one stage, they signaled a suspect attempting to cross toward the border to stop. However, he tried to flee, prompting BGB personnel to chase and apprehend him on the spot.

Later, officials recovered two packets wrapped in tape from his waist. Inside the packets, 10 gold bars were found.

The recovered gold weighs approximately 1 kilogram and 166 grams, with an estimated market value of Taka 2,47,89,160.

BGB officials confirmed that legal proceedings against the accused are currently underway.
