Measles-rubella vaccination campaign begins April 20 in Kushtia

KUSHTIA, April 16, 2026 (BSS) - The 2026 measles-rubella vaccination campaign is set to begin in the district on April 20 under the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), with the drive accorded top priority to control the situation and prevent further spread.

The campaign will continue until May 11.

Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Mohammad Kamal Hossain said this at a press conference held in the conference room of his office this morning, highlighting various aspects of the campaign. Medical Officer of the Civil Surgeon’s Office, Dr Nasrin Akter, also presented an informational briefing on the measles-rubella campaign.

A total of 230,926 children aged between six months and five years will be vaccinated under the campaign. Based on the distribution across upazilas and municipalities, the targets have been set at 45,000 children in Kushtia Sadar, 38,843 in Kumarkhali, 14,006 in Khoksa, 47,613 in Daulatpur, 33,893 in Mirpur, and 24,691 in Bheramara.

Additionally, the targets include 19,450 children in Kushtia Municipality, 4,544 in Kumarkhali Municipality, and 2,686 in Bheramara Municipality.

To ensure the success of the campaign, six permanent and 1,684 temporary vaccination centres have been set up across the district.

The district health department reported that between March 15 and April 14, a total of 538 suspected measles cases were identified in the district.

According to relevant sources, vaccination activities will be conducted in phases at designated centres based on microplans for each upazila and municipality.

Parents have been urged to bring their children to the nearest vaccination centres to receive the vaccine.
