CHUADANGA, April 19, 2026 (BSS) – Over 100,000 children in the district will receive the measles-rubella (MR) vaccine under a special immunisation campaign set to begin tomorrow, which will continue until May 10.

A total of 100,305 children aged between six months and less than five years will be covered under the campaign, officials said at a press briefing held at the Civil Surgeon’s Office here today.

Preparations for the campaign have already been completed, including the training of trainers at the district level, while advocacy and coordination meetings, along with awareness drives through public announcements, are currently underway.

There are 980 outreach vaccination centres across the district, along with eight permanent centres. A total of 341 personnel from government and non-government sectors will be involved in the campaign, supported by 1,998 volunteers.
Civil Surgeon Dr Hadi Ziauddin Ahmed said that since March 15, a total of 42 children have been admitted to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital with measles infection. Of them, 36 have recovered and returned home, while six are still undergoing treatment there.

“The vaccination campaign will run daily from 8am to 5pm. We aim to ensure that all targeted children receive the vaccine. This will help protect them from these contagious diseases,” the Civil Surgeon said, urging cooperation from all to achieve full coverage.

Among others, WHO Medical Officer Dr Khandakar Imran Hafiz, President of Chuadanga Press Club Nazmul Haque Swapan, General Secretary Shah Alam Sani, and District Press Club President Advocate Manik Akbar spoke at the event.
