RAJSHAHI, April 19, 2026 (BSS)- Over 200,000 children in the district will
receive the Measles-Rubella vaccine under an emergency immunisation campaign
set to begin tomorrow, which will continue until May 10.

A total of 2,01,976 children aged between six months and less than five years
will be covered under the campaign, officials said at a press briefing held
at the Civil Surgeon's Office here today.

Preparations for the campaign have already been completed, including the
training of trainers at the district level, while advocacy and coordination
meetings, along with awareness drives through public announcements, are
currently underway.

There are 1,584 outreach vaccination centres in eight upazilas of the
district, along with 573 school-based centres and 10 permanent centres.

Civil Surgeon Dr. SIM Raziul Karim said a target has been set to bring 13,597
educational institutions and 1,88,379 communities under the campaign.

In the first phases from April 5 to 25, 37,347 out of the targeted 37,954
children were vaccinated in Godagari upazila of the district while 4,978 out
of 5,445 targeted ones in Godagari Pourasabha.

The Civil Surgeon said: "The vaccination campaign will run daily from 8am to
5pm. We aim to ensure that all targeted children receive the vaccine. This
will help protect them from these contagious diseases."

All children aged between six months and five years will receive a dose of
the measles-rubella vaccine during the drive.

Children who have already received measles vaccines under routine
immunisation programmes will still need to be vaccinated again as part of
this campaign.

He said the campaign aims to achieve 100 percent coverage to ensure effective
protection.

Among others, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Mahbuba Khatun and Medical Officer Dr
Bayezid Ul Islam spoke at the event.
